Office 2003 Trial Version

O

OldTimer

I've just purchased a new desktop (Win XP Home) which has Office 2003
Student & Teacher Trial version installed. I want to convert this to
permanent version, but I don't find that the FAQs or information on
Microsoft's web are of any help in what I want to do.

On their "Convert your Trial" information page, it states: "When
determining which Office 2003 Edition to obtain, please be sure to
specify the "upgrade" version if you are considering Microsoft Standard
Edition 2003 or Microsoft Small Business Edition 2003 . . . "

I want to convert my trial version of Office 2003 Student & Teacher with
an Office 2003 Small Business "upgrade" Edition. Can I do this or do I
need a "Full" version (not an upgrade of Small Business Edition)?

Inspite of what's on Microsoft's page (2nd paragraph above) I suspect
that I can only use an upgrade edition, if I have that specific edition
already installed on trial (recognizing that Student & Standard editions
are interchangeable).

I hope there's someone knowledgeable about trial versions and upgrades
that can help me with this.

Thanks,
An old-timer trying to keep up

Hi, OldTimer,

Give Microsoft a call. Though there are a lot of knowledgeable folks here,
I wouldn't rely on peer support for licensing and legal issues.

1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific time)
and ask to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist. Worldwide
customers can use the Guide to Worldwide Microsoft Licensing Sites to find
contact information in their locations.

I've called them and have had good luck speaking with a real person for
free.
