Office 2007 setup.exe fails

I have Office 2007 pre-installed on Dell with Vista Home Premium, fully
updated. Want to add back Power Point. Opened the shrink wrapped CDs for
the first time (computer is a year old). Insert CD & get initial dialog
"Please wait while Setup prepares necessary files". 5 seconds later: "Setup
has stopped working; Windows will now close this program". I don't even get
to the serial # screen. Can read contents of CD in Explorer without problem.
Setup comes right up on another computer, so CD seems fine. How to make
setup run?

Can you run setup from your explorer window when you browse the contents of
the CD? What happens if you copy the CD to the hard drive and install from
there?

Is this a full version of Office or is it the Office trial?

Full Office 2007 Small Business, not trial. Setup.exe will not run from
explorer either, same messages occur. Nor will Powerpointmui.msi from PP
folder, but I'm not sure it's supposed to. That attempt states that
'installation source is not available'. It seems that there is some type of
conflict in my particular machine telling setup not to run. Just a little
disappointing, as I have had zero problems with Vista and Office until this.
Setup opens promptly on 2 other machines-asking for serial#. I can copy to
hard drive & try. If that fails, I'm thinking of un-installing from control
panel (after a backup image) and then see if it will re-install. Another
point: there is a second CD with S B Contact Manager which opens right up to
allow install. Thank you for your reply.

Millie, I believe that I may have a corrupt registry install source key. I
am hand-cuffed. Unable to un-install via control panel ('MS Office did not
uninstall" after about 5 seconds), and setup.exe promptly terminates whether
from CD or hard drive copy. Seems to be unable to locate source files. Is
it naive for me to find and try to correct the source key in registry? (I
suspect that is either difficult or simply impossible). Unless you have a
suggestion, I believe my only option is to re-install Vista and start over,
which I prob. will not do. My machine is great until this. I may have to
just use PP on someone else's machine for now. Thanks again

Apparently my install source registry data had gotten corrupted. Was unable
to run setup.exe or uninstall via cont. panel. But was able to force delete
the bad install info via Microsoft's 'Windows Install Clean Up' utility.
After force deleting the (corrupt) install data strings, then setup.exe
opened up to the Serial # dialog box, and have everything reinstalled in no
time.
