Office 2007 Setup Problem

I'm trying to install Office 2007 on Windows Vista Ultimate.

I always get the error 'The language of this installation package is not
supported by your system.' moments after starting the installation (before
any other screens appear).

I did have Office 2003 installed but did a full uninstall before starting
installatin.

The version is Office 2007 Enterprise Retail Edition which I purchased
through one of Microsoft's student licensing partners. I therefore have the
original DVD. The partner tells me that software support is not supplied by
them.

Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

I did although not through a satisfactory method.

I uninstalled everything that could be uninstalled and it still would not
go. On other machines the setup would run up without fail.

A quick reformat and it installed first time. Whilst this was not ideal - it
saved wasting anymore time. It appears that either Windows/Office Update or
Office 2003 leaves a trace of something somewhere that the installation of
Office 2007 does not like.

When I placed the Office 2007 Enterprise DVD in the drive and allowed the
auto start to happen, I got a splash screen saying that office install is
preparing the necessary files and then got an error that stated;
“Setup can not continue because a required file is either corrupt or not
available...Re run from the original media or download locationâ€
I was using the original Microsoft DVD, I tried again but no success.
Searched the internet and discovered that a lot of people have had this or
similar problem.

Phoned Microsoft tech support and they were very helpful and this was the
solution. Worked first time.

Click Start
In the little window at the bottom that has the words “Start Searchâ€, type
msconfig & Press enter
In MS Config,
Under the “General†Tab,
Click the “Selective Startup†Radio button.
This should make two check boxes available to be changed.
Leave the “Load SystemServices†Check box checked.
Then clear “Load StartUp Items†checkbox.
Now select the “Services†Tab
Click the “Hide All Microsoft Services†Check box at the bottom left.
Click the “Disable all†button at the bottom right.
Click “Applyâ€
Click “OKâ€
Observe the message that pops up titled “System Configurationâ€
"You may need to restart your computer to apply these changes....."
Click the “Restart†Button.

Put the Office DVD in the drive.
Do the install including entering the product key.

After Office 2007 has been installed
Click Start
Enter msconfig and press Enter.
In the “General†tab, click the “Normal Startup†radio button.
Click “Applyâ€
Click “OKâ€
Observe the message that pops up titled “System Configurationâ€
You may need to restart your computer to apply these changes.....
Click the “Restart†Button.

This was so easy in the end, but frustrating until I found out the above!
