Office 2K3 Picture Manager Broken ?

C

Chris.M

Hi All,

We have found a rather fatal bug in the picture manager that comes bundled
with office 2003. If the domain username is the same as the workstations
name, picture manager will not allow *ANY* modifications to images.

For example, when a user attempts to change the contrast settings, they can
move the slider around but when the mouse button is released the changes
revert back to the original values.

I have searched (in vain) the ms knowledge base but was unable to locate any
documents that mention this bug.

Does anyone know of a workaround other than renaming our logon accounts or
workstation names ?

This is really an operating system issue rather than an Office issue, but
I've read that having user names duplicate machine names is a prescription
for disaster and will mess up many things besides picture manager. Get
rid of the duplication as quickly as you can.

The issue of computername and username being the same has caused issues
elsewhere in the past. This is just the latest problem to be identified
due to that practice. Please move ahead with the name changing as
rapidly as possible.
