Office 97 and Office XP upgrade

I had to purchase a new laptop which has Windows XP Home
on it. I own Office 97 Professional and also purchased
Office XP Professional upgrade for my last laptop (it
crashed and so am no longer using it). It installed and
upgraded correctly on my last laptop which had XP
Professional on it.

My last laptop had less RAM and also less memory than the
laptop that I have today. But, when trying to install
Office 97 (before trying to install the upgrade to Office
XP), I am getting an error that there is not enough memory
to shut down any Windows programs that are running. I have
performed a CTL-ALT-DEL and shut down as much as I can
without the system becoming unstable and still the Office
97 will not install.

The exact message is:
"Can't run 16-Bit Windows program
Insufficient memory to run this application. Quit one or
more Windows applications and then try again."

This computer has very little installed on it since I just
purchased it yesterday. Norton Antivirus was pre-
installed. I have since installed Ad-Aware, SpyWare
Blaster, Pop-Up Stopper and SpyBot Search and Destroy. I
have made sure that none of these are running when I am
trying to install Office 97.

Any help appreciated.

when it complains that it cannot find a QP, insert the off97 cd, once found,
reinsert offxp cd and continue the install.

Linda,

There is no need to install your office97. Just start installing your upgrade version of Office XP and when prompted to insert a CD for qualifying product, insert your office 97 CD and when it has checked it, remove it and re-insert Office XP CD and continue from there.
