Office / Entourage X pathetic offering

What is up with this update? Microsoft has been promising for months
that the update due this summer would have Exchange functionality.

I can't even think of a more pathetic excuse of a product update. I've
been using Entourage for months just for it's ability to send/receive
email via IMAP and SMTP. This update doesn't give me any more
functionality.

If this is really "The single most popular request we've heard since
launching Office v. X is that our customers need an Exchange solution
for Mac OS X ...," why did Microsoft even release this if it does not
work???

I do hate to send "me too" replies. But, with some difficulty, I was
able to connect to the Exchange server at work and what do I get?
Nothing more than IMAP connectivity. All of the folders that are on
the Exchange server show up with the email view display. Even the
calendar. I was not able to see how to get any calendar functionality
out of it.

The Outlook 2001 is significanlty more functional, and I think that it
lacks a lot.

I only hope that the download from an early alpha was posted by
mistake.

Hi Lorenzen!

While I believe many folks will be happy with this release of Entourage, I
also believe many folks will be disappointed.

The Entourage update offers some new functionality, but sorely misses a lot
of the functionality of Outlook 2001. In particular, I miss server-side
rules. All rules in Entourage must now be run at the client, which means
vacation replies, etc., can only be responded to by an open Entourage client
or be set on a Windows machine. Not very smart.

On the otherhand, for those who are taken back by the use of IMAP and SMTP,
I applaud the MacBU for aligning with standards and not adopting the
proprietary MAPI protocol.

Macs are a very small portion of Microsoft clients, but I believe that
squeaky wheels will get heard. I encourage you and everyone else who is
disappointed to actively use the Help --> Send Feedback on Entourage menu.

We may have to wait for a major revision of Entourage before seeing
functionality return, but I believe it will return if we show demand for it.
