Office install won't run

I'm trying to install Office 2004 onto a new brand new MacBook. The
install disk icon never shows on the desktop and the DVD drive makes
regular spins of the disk... dies away then spins again.. never seeming
to quite get into top gear and never actually achieving anything.

Both the MacBook and Office 2004 are fresh out of the box.

Any ideas what might be happening?

You either have a bad drive or a bad disk. Are you able to boot other
install disks? Can you test the MS disk on another computer? If you
purchased locally, I would ask for a replacement.

If you have Office 2004 installed on another computer you could use the
Migration Assistant or try drag and drop of the Office 2004 folder until you
get your problem solved.
