I've never been able to sync office notifications with my calendar (osx)
A note always pops up 24 hours before event, how do I set it to 15minutes
before for example?

What exactly are you referring to here? The Entourage calendar or iCal? If
you're referring to Entourage calendar, see below.

Go to Entourage -> General Preferences, and select the "Calendar" tab.
Under "Reminders" check the option to "Set default reminder to occur 15
minutes before".
