I am experiencing the Project 2003 installation problem as detailed in
KB830422:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;830422
This is causing us a real problem as we wish to enforce the creation of a
local CD cache (LIS) and this issue is causing the installation to fail.
The workaround suggested (install Project first, prat about a bit, then
install Office) is not viable because we want to make the installation of
Office mandatory and then optionally offer Project to only those users who
require it.
This issue can occur both during a regular manual installation and also
when deployed via SMS. The really bizarre thing is the we don't always
experience the issue, even on identically configured machines!
I have discovered that disabling the Office Source Engine service allows
the installation to proceed. However I am concerned over any knock on
effects of disabling this service.
Has anyone else encountered this or found a more workable workaround?
