Office shouldn't be so expensive.

Stephdog

I currently own Office 2000 and it's a great thing to have...all of the
features and all... I really like the newer versions but I don't thing that
it should cost $150...no matter how many features there is, no matter how
good it works, or how user-friendly it is. It is just way too expensive for
anybody to just go and buy. Now if it were half the price that it is now I
might go buy it. Why should it cost so much, anyway? Are you not making
tons of money with all of the other stuff that Microsoft is doing? What
would the harm be in lowering the price some?

If you can't afford it, don't buy it - simple.

Have you asked Autodesk why AutoCad costs so much? Several thousand dollars
for a drafting/drawing software? Have you asked Apple why FinalCut Pro is
$1000? Why is Microsoft the company you ask about a complete Office suite
costing $150? Why not ask Corel why their WordPerfect Suite costs twice as
much?

Have you ever worked for a living? If yes, why does your employer have to
pay you so much for your job? Is your job worth more or less than what your
employer thinks?

Do you really need the newer features?

Would open office work for you?

You can get Microsoft Office, Microsoft Windows, and other top name software cheaper at a local Computer Show
and Sale (for those that live in the United States). Here are some links where you can get information:

And I've been to those shows. I've never seen current software there - and I
gotta tell you, I'd never buy anything as costly as Office from those
vendors. They are *never* from the area and *always* look like fly-by-night
outfits.

FWIW, there's a once-a-month computer swapmeet in my area and the vendors are
very often local folks. There's several who operated computer stores here
but couldn't survive the competition from Fry's Electronics, Staples,
CompUSA, etc. Many are very reputable and honest, a few are not but it's not
hard to recognize those who show up every month, have business cards with
legitimate local phone numbers, etc.

There are also several vendors that come from California every month and are
also reputable.

Then there's the guys who sell pirated software.... but how could you not
know when someone offers a copy of WindowsXP for $10 on a Best Buy CD? ;-)

BTW, you're right about some of the software not being current, there's folks
selling OS/2 Warp, Windows 95, Windows NT 4.0, etc. along with 386
motherboards. For a kid who wants to build his own computer, this will get
him started for almost no money.... then when the bug has bitten Fry's, Best
Buy, Office Max, etc. can get him for hundreds when he wants to upgrade. :)

Actually, if you think about all you're getting it should cost a lot more.

Now...the pair of ripped blue jeans my daughter just bought for $54.00...now
that's expensive...I coulda bought the same thing at a garage sale for 50
cents.

No swap meets here - just the Marketpro folks. And they really do look
shady. We went to one of their shows the other month. That was the first in
a while. Nothing had changed.

LOL!! You are so right!

And then there's the bottled water that cost more per gallon than
gasoline...

Yah the bottled water scam..remember when water was almost free?

Remember when we paid for cable tv because there were no
commercials?...sucked us in with that one too...now there's more commercials
than programming.
