Office Update 12.1.1 - Entourage won't show new messages in inbox

All the other folders are fine, but when new messages come in they don't show up in the inbox. Any thoughts or ideas? It's a bit annoying going to webmail, then deleting, then back to Entourage and moving them from my deleted mail to my inbox. Help!!!!

I had this happen once. I resolved it by control-clicking the Inbox and
choosing Folder Properties > Empty Cache. This rebuilds the folder from what
is on the server, and seemed to correct the sync issue. Just be aware that
you are retreiving the list from the server - any changes you've made with
Entourage to content in the Inbox may be lost.

I am having the same problem with Entourage synching my Hotmail inbox. It is synching sent and deleted items with Hotmail and everything with my other email account.
I tried Adam's fix but can't bring up Folder Properties in the manner he suggests. I also have Mac OS X 10.5.4.
All suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks Adam, I encountered this issue this morning and doing what you said resolved the issue.

Does anyone know if there was an upgrade to Mac 2008 in the past week?

no, not in the last week.

I am having a similar problem, wherein, in the last few weeks, incoming mail has been going into the inbox under "folders on my computer" and into "deleted messages" under my main identity. If I open the mail from the first location, I can't move it into any of the subfolders under my main identity, so I've been opening it from the deleted messages to avoid that problem. It's getting old, and I can't find the folder properties feature, either (in Office 2008).

Having a similar problem still deserves it's own thread. Threads with
multiple problems get awfully confusing. Please start your own thread the
next time.

What type of account? (POP, IMAP, Exchange) You've given us very few
details.

When messages are going to the wrong folder:

You must have a rule that is moving the message. The most likely culprit is
the Mailing List Manager (MLM). It's very easy to set up a MLM rule by
accident, when you are marking a message as 'not junk'. The wording of that
dialog is ambiguous to say the least. Check if there is an MLM entry (look
for MLM entries under the tools menu) with the incorrect destination folder
as the target folder. Mailing List Manager rules run before your other
rules.

Thanks, Diane, and sorry for any improper use--I am new at this. I have an IMAP account. I checked MLM and there is only one rule for one sender but, come to think of it, this may have happened after I set that rule (which is just to accept mail from that sender). I upgraded to 2008 today and thought that would fix the problem but it didn't.

Later that same day....I just deleted the rule and voila! My test message arrived in the proper inbox! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Glad you have that fixed. This is one of the most common problems. It's
supposed to be fixed in Entourage 2008 so you don't accidentally do this.

I have the same problem with one of my accounts. I have to exchange accounts, created the same day on the same server, but on one the accounts the inbox will not update. It only shows mails from 3 weeks ago. I have tried to empty the cache, did not work. I have looked for rules, but no rules. Everything else on this account works perfect(calendar, contacts etc) Please help!

I have the same problem with my work IMAP account - all the other folders are up to date, but the inbox won't show new messages. It will show that there are new messages (e.g., INBOX (3)), but it won't let me view them. It happened last year as well, and I can't recall the fix.

I've tried all the solutions suggested above - no MLM rules, no other rules/filters, low junk mail filter, rebuild identity, etc.

I can use MacMail and access my mail just fine (the IMAP updates on all folders, and on other IMAP clients), but my addresses are in Entourage 2004 and I'd like to keep using it. Any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Tim

With the message list open, try pressing Option-Command (Apple)-L to
refresh/repair the message list.

If that doesn't help, try selecting "Unread Only" from the "View" menu. Do
you then see the unread messages?

Actually, just as you posted this suggestion, it started refreshing the list. I don't know why, I don't know how, and I certainly didn't do anything other than what I posted previously, but somehow it started working again. I'm now up to date on the inbox.

But thanks - I'll hold on to this and other suggestions for the next time (I'm sure there will be one) that this happens. If nothing else, reading this thread has helped me come up with a couple of options and I've learned more about Entourage than I knew before.

Thanks for taking to the time to help.

I had the exact same issue (inbox not updating but other folders work fine) on my MS Exchange account and right clicking on the inbox, choosing folder properties -> Empty Cache worked to resolve this issue for me.
