Office Updates failing @ 40% after SP2

H

Hamish Harding

Since upgrading to SP2 a couple of days ago, cant get the
office updates service to get past 40% (running a fully
up-to-date Office 2003). Windows Update is fine. Have
also installed Microsoft Powertoys for Windows recently.
I know the Windows Update log is in the Windows
directory, but cant find an Office update log - is there
one?

- Dell Latitude D800 running XP Pro, Zone Alarm Pro (so
not using the new Windows Firewall). McAvee Antivirus.
All the latest patches in everything.

An update: Shutting down Zone Alarm Pro while I do the
Office Update solves it! But this is not a long term
fix - any ideas anyone why SP2 causes the same Office
Update and the same ZoneAlarm to now conflict?

A further update: it actually required Zone Alarm "cookie
control" to be turned OFF completely, then Office Update
works fine again, even with "High" setting on the main ZA
Internet firewall setting.

Did this solve your problem. Keep in mind it uses an ActiveX control to run
detection. Please make sure your computer allows you to run signed ActiveX
controls.

Thanks,

I am having the same exact problem, except shutting down
Zone Alarm(freeware version) does not help. Hamish and I
have nearly the same CPU setup. Also, ActiveX controls
are enabled and I just upgraded to XP SP2 with the same
results. Please HELP!!!

Thanks,
Ryan

PS I get the following error message when I try to
uninstall Office XP, "This patch package could not be
opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you
can access it, or contact the application vendor to
verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch
package." Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Thanks for your help. I was able to uninstall Office XP
using the Windows Installer Cleanup utility. However, I
am still having the same problems after reinstalling it.
Also, Office XP is native to this CPU, I have not
upgraded it from an earlier version.

I have seen numerous people in this newsgroup with same
problem, but no one seems to have a direct answer. All
comments and suggestions are welcome.

Thanks again for your help, but nothing is working. There
are numerous posts in this newsgroup with the same exact
problem. Why is there no direct answer?
