Office X Entourage installed, but Office 2001 opens instead of Office X

I recently installed Office X on my G4 running system 10.2.6.2. The
new Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Entourage open fine individually. If
Word X is opened, and I open an attachment in Entourage X, it opens
in Word X. However, if Word X (or Excel X, etc.) is not open, and I open
the same document attachment without specifying a program to open
it, then System 9 starts, and Word 2001 opens instead of Word X.

I've looked for preferences to change, but can't find any either in the
Mac system and in the Entourage preferences. Am I not looking in the
right place?

Is there a way to insure that documents open in Office X instead of the
older 2001 (other than uninstalling 2001) Is there any reason to keep
Office 2001, or should I just uninstall it?

Select any Word document, press cmd-I or control-click and select Get Info.
Select "Opens With". Select (or click Browse and navigate if it's not
offered in the popup) Word X in Microsoft Office v. X folder. The **click
"Change All" button**.

Do the equivalent for Excel and PowerPoint documents (and .eml email files
and .mbox files if you ever open these, choosing Entourage).
