I cannot change the homepage preference in Safari. More precisely, I can change the
preferences, but the applications automatically change them back.
Preferences in other applications, Word for example, behave normally.

Given this machine's relatively small, but high-resolution monitor, standard
12-point type appears very small on screen in Word. The logical answer is
using Word's Zoom feature. However, when I do, the letter spacing becomes
demented. Its psychokerning. Big gaps appear between letters. Gaps disappear
between words. It seems entirely random‹no pattern or consistency. It
becomes impossible to know what's correct and what isn't. To some degree,
this problem is font-related. It's far worse, for example, in Helvetica than
it is in Ariel. But it's present in every font I've tried. This problem
makes it impossible to ensure file accuracy on screen. Moreover, as with
Word 98, Word X isn't WYSIWYG. Line breaks and tabbing on print-outs do not
match line breaks on screen, making proofing and correction more difficult
and time-consuming.

anything, this means.
