Office Xp activation

I am looking to do a bit of hardware upgrade in my system, basically
change the cpu, motherboard and memory. Plus i intend to stick windows
xp on (currently 98)

My question is will this afffect the activation of my oem copy of
office XP sbe.

I know the eula states the software can only be installed on one
machine, however where is the line drawn in upgrades where it
constitutes a new machine.

Reason i askl is that the case, Hdd, cd floppy etc are not changing so
it is still half the same machine.

Anyone know if i will have to buy a new copy of office or will it
still be fine activating

You'll probably have to make a phone call. Tell them you replaced some
defective hardware.

adcb,
It will not be the same machine as sold to you by the manufacturer.
"Original Equipement" should tell you...

Which is why I recommended taking some of the original equipment from the
old computer to the new one.

I spaced out and thought I was responding to another post. It is the
original equipment, only upgraded. One is allowed to upgrade one's machine
without having to purchase new software, yes?

That's why oem Office or Windows software pricing is usually much cheaper
than retail purchases.

But what constitutes Original Equipment? What makes a "new computer"? MS has
said it will allow upgrades and does not say in its EULA what upgrades are
allowed and what upgrades are not. So long as the OP isn't moving it to
another computer, I don't see any reason why he or she cannot use the same
OEM XP Office.

Thats my point exactly, its all a bit of a grey area, i have spoken to my
reseller and he is unsure as well, unfortunatly i cannot seem to be able to
contact microsoft directly by phone or email and simply get them to clarify
for me.

Just install it and if you have to call MS, tell them you have replaced
defective parts.

Who said anything about support? I was talking about activation. Yaknow, the
thingy you have to do in order to use the app. and, if it doesn't activate
online, I suspect that you have to call Microsoft but what do I know?

Ok well i think that i will just have to bite the bullet and buy the
parts, i would think as there really is not much in the way of
guidance from microsoft.

If i have to buy new software i have to buy it, grr

Cheers for your help

Of course not.

That's what MS wants you to do.

If I were you, I would install the new hardware, install Office XP and
activate it. If it's been over 120 days since the last activation, it should
activate online without any problems. If you have to make a call, just tell
them you replaced defective hardware and they will give you a number to key
in that will activate it. But, hey, it's your money.
