office2000 product key fails to register on my PC no more. Why?

I have recently wiped my hard drive and re-installed all my programs, but
when i tried to install my Office 2000 cd rom, i keep getting a message
telling me that i have the wrong product key. In turn, my office 2000 program
fails to register on my PC. Why?
