Office2000, XP, P-P Net, Printer on W98 PC, delay from XP to PRN

There is a many seconds delay whenever I change page format in Excel/Word. My
PC is XP, Printer HP1020, is on W98 PC. network is peer to peer. No delay if
I select local printer

Two contradictory statements, unless you mean Office XP and win98

If any delay is only when useing a network printer then any delay may be due
to printer drivers/network connection, possibly AV office plugin.

Sorry about the confusion.
My PC is XP,
The printer is on another computer running W98.
Our computers are networked peer to peer.
Whenever I use the printer or if I make it my default printer, Word and
Excel are very slow to do any page formating functions.
I have scanned and updated XP and Office from Microsoft.

Have you also update printer drivers, from manu.site?
Though it sounds more like a network problem
