Offset with Cell("address")

Why won't this work...
=offset(CELL("address"),1,1)-WEEKDAY(offset(CELL("address"),1,1),3)
I am trying to return mondays date depending on what's in cell
offset(activecell,1,1)

Because it will retun text, to overcome that you would need to use INDIRECT
however once you do it will create a circular reference
