Try starting Outlook with this command line switch /resetoutlookbar, to run
this switch go to Start > Run > type "Outlook /resetoutlookbar" without the
quotes but with the space before the forward slash. Note running this switch
WILL rebuild your Shortcut Bar and removal all customisation. There isn't a
setting to turn on/off unread count hence the switch.
