OL2003: Possible to change Junk E-mail folder name?

H

H Gohel

Outlook 2003 on WinXP Home.

Is it possible to change the name of the folder that Outlook moves
junk-email to? I found several options for junk email, but not the
folder name/location.

I use SpamAssassin on the server and I would like both apps to send junk
email to the same folder.

No, you can't. If you're using SA, do you need Outlook's? Use rules to move
messages based on the SA rating if they are still in the inbox.

Can't you assign SpamAssassin to use a different folder? Since the JEF uses
a special folder it's better not to temper with it.

My inbox's spam volume is approx 30-40 per day (~50 on weekends), and SA
misses a few, and surprisingly Outlook is catching them! So I then I
have two folders on the server - one "SPAM" and one "Junk E-mail".

As for Roady's suggestion of renaming my SPAM folder to "Junk E-mail",
it would work, but I'd rather not have a file folder with spaces and
dashes on my UNIX system (mail server). I'd rather not have to use
quotes and escapes to access a file via UNIX. Thanks for the sgggestion
though, I hadn't thought of that.

Well there is a tool to rename the default folders of Outlook but it is not
supported by Microsoft

Thanks Roady. That worked perfectly. After renaming the folder it
appeared that the Junk email filtering stopped working, but what I
noticed was that the filtering started happening silently. So earlier
where I used to get a notification that Outlook has moved the message to
the Junk E-mail folder, now I'm not getting any notification, however,
the mail is being deleted.

Looked in the junk email options dialog and didn't see any flag to turn
the notification back on. Seems like a small price to pay for having
both Outlook 2003 and SpamAssassin use the same junk folder.

Thanks again.

Good to hear!

Interesting; did this happen for all your clients? The notification has an
option to never show again; are you sure this wasn't ticked instead?
