Old Database file and cache - delete or keep?

L

lindsay_wolfington

I just completed an advanced rebuild in my entourage X. At the end, it
told me to trash the filed Old Database file and Old database cache. If
I trash those files, will I lose all the messages that were in my
entourage prior to the rebuild?

Also, I have seen some posts about people keeping these old database
files, and others about backing up my MUD: which is better? How do you
back up MUD?

Thanks,
Lindsay

Hi Lindsay,

if Entourage is working well right now, there's no need to keep the old
database; during the rebuild, Entourage migrated all the data from the old
database to the new one, so you won't experience any data losses.

Backing up the MUD folder is definitely the recommended and also the most
convenient method of backing up your Entourage data. The backup itself is
quite easily done: locate your Microsoft User Data folder (in ~/Documents),
preferably after quitting any Office applications to make sure the database
is no longer being accessed, and save a copy in a different location. I'd
recommend backing up on an external device, such as a USB flash drive, or an
external hard drive; other options include burning the MUD folder on a CD-R
or a DVD-R, or storing them on a server, such as an iDisk.
