Why can't I get rid of this On My Computer sidebar group? This seems to be a
POP3 notion, and I use IMAP and Exchange only. I'd like to not have these
folders cluttering the sidebar.

The 'on my computer' section is the default location for any POP items, but
is used for other things as well. It can be used to store messages (and
events, contacts etc) that you want to store locally, rather than on the
server - even if they were originally created in or came from your exchange
account.
Unfortunately, there is currently no way to hide it completely, but it can
be 'shrunk down' to a single line (which, in 2008, is locted at the bottom
of the mail account list if a non-POP account is your default account).
You can send feedback to the developers on this issue. Use the last menu
item under the 'Help' menu - "Send Feedback on Entourage". This message will
go directly to the developers. The more people that request this feature the
more likely it is to be implemented.
