Ok, I am at a small college, behind a firewall. I can
send and recieve e-mail fine within my college. When I
try to send outside of the college, I get an error, 5.7.1
Unable to Relay. It is the first time I have tried to get
this set up.
Can anyone help?
I'm assuming the sending (SMTP) server is your college's. Go to
Tools/Accounts/Mail/that account/Edit. Click the "Advanced Sending options"
button at the bottom, and enable "Requires authentication: same settings as
receiving". See if that helps.
You may need to know about overriding the standard POP or IMAP port to
whatever someone in the IT dept. of your college tells you. Or it simply may
not work, if they have an unbudgeable firewall. Ask an IT person at the
college which settings to use.
