Once a single cell is selected, cannot unselect it without crashing excel...

Hi all,
I'm having an interesting problem with excel. When I open
any worksheet in excel and select a cell, it acts like I
am holding down the left mouse button, and will not let me
deselect the cell. I have tried left-clicking, right-
clicking, and the lot, but nothing will unselect the cell.
I cannot get rid of this problem. I uninstalled office,
and it has returned again. I'm begginning to become
curious if it is one of the spreadhseets I'm using
corrupting the installation somehow. I also think it may
be some sort of formatting problem in a spreadsheet I'm
using. If any of this sounds familiar to anyone, please
let me know. Any information you can provide me on this
issue would be greatly appreciated.
