One single forwarding rule - it works, but the original messagejust disappears!

I am really hoping that someone, somewhere, has experienced this, and can
offer some help...

We using Entourage 2004 11.1.0 on OS X 10.3. The account is a POP account,
with no Exchange server. The one single rule that it has is set to Forward
All Messages, and do nothing else.

99% of the messages are forwarded, except for about one per week.

I've checked every folder on the system - including the Inbox, Junk mail,
Sent items, Deleted items, and every folder in between. I have checked them
visually, and using the search filters, and ensured that I am viewing all
messages, not just the Unread ones.

I have also checked that the messages are being sent to the correct business
address, and are not just direct replies to the forwarding address, so I'm
sure they are being sent to the first address, and they are, in fact, being
forwarded to the second address.

But the messages simply disappear after forwarding!

Is there anything such as an Entourage log that can be viewed, or is there
any way to view the headers of the message at the forwarding address to see
if there is a clue as to why they are just disappearing?

Any help from anyone would be sincerely appreciated.

Thanks!

Debra

You could create a local folder to be a temporary cache of these messages
and alter your POP rule to (1) copy the message to the local folder and (2)
forward the message.

Then you could compare received messages vs. the cache, isolate any missing
items and then have your headers. Of course, changing the rule may perturb
its behavior and hide/alter the bug...

Good luck!

I've answered you once already. You didn't answer most of my questions.
However this time you say it's POP, and thus not IMAP, so that answers most
of them.

So what happens if you disable the rule for a while? Where do the messages
appear?

Thanks for your rather terse response... I actually did answer all of your
questions in my reply message posted the same day, but never heard back from
you until I rephrased my question in this form...

For what it's worth, when the rule is turned off, the messages simply appear
in the Inbox, without incident. Only when it's turned on does it forward and
delete the message.

Another user has provided me with a possible solution to follow the
messages, so I will try that and post the results to the group once I get
back on Thursday.

Thanks for your help! That's a great idea!

I will try it first thing on Thursday morning, when I get back, and let you
know if this worked...

Thanks again!

Still no luck on this...

I've now tried creating a new rule that copies the message to a "Test"
folder, then forwards the message.

99% of the time the rule is followed and the messages get forwarded, but
once in a while, the message just gets forwarded, but there is no record of
the message ever being received in the original mailbox. It is not in the
Inbox, the "Test" folder, the junk mail, or the deleted items - nor any
other folder, as I have checked them all very carefully.

Has anyone else experienced this before? Is there any way that I can check
to see how it got to the other end without having a record of it in the
original mailbox?

I've tried deleting the original rule and creating a new one, I've tried the
copy first, then send option and I've tried replacing the account. None of
these have worked. The rule works on all but 1%, and it does send the
message - it just doesn't keep a copy in the original location...

Any suggestions at all would be appreciated, as this has been happening for
a couple of months now.

Thanks,

Debra
