Is the online status column supposed to display whether people are signed on
to MSN IM? If so, how do you get the column to work?

Is the online status column supposed to display whether people are signed on
to MSN IM? If so, how do you get the column to work?

If you mean the Online Status column of messages in the Mail area, with
either Preview pane Below or no Preview Pane, then no - it has nothing to do
with that. That column shows whether messages are still on the server or
not, whether they are fully downloaded or partially. and whether or not they
are marked for deletion from the server. It relates to messages, not people.

It's the Address Book which relates to people. There, in Entourage 2004, you
can indeed see whether contacts are signed into MSN Messenger. If you look
in the "Contact Type" column - one blob for contact, two blobs for groups -
a contact who is signed in to Messenger will display a colored blob instead
of a white-silver one. (I forget which color, but you'll see soon enough.)
You have to be connected yourself, of course.

Blue for Online, Red for Offline, as in MSN Messenger itself.
