Only Entourage works...

Why is it that only Entourage works with our Exchange 2003 server?
Inside or outside the network, with proxies or without, with IP numbers
or names, Entourage simply finds the server and does the job. Mail app
or Macjordomo don't (I don't need mail.app but I do need to get
macjordomo to work so that I can manage a list). The message I get when
setting up mail app is "the server xxx not responding. Check your
network connections, etc" and it's the same for exchange, pop or imap
accounts, all with settings that work perfectly in Entourage. I am
trying to find what I need to change on the server to make it work and
would be grateful for any information on different protocols used by
the two programs or any settings you are aware off that would help with
this problem. No luck with the apple discussion boards.
OSX 10.4.8, Entourage 11.2.5
Many thanks
George

It pretty much depends onthe configuration of the server I suspect.
Entourage accesses the server through http. Everywhere Webmail is
accessible, ENtourage should be able to get your e-mails.

Mail for instnace has to access the e-mails through IMAP (with a few
alterations). SOme servers don;t offer IMAP and others place
restrictions on it. That would explain the difference.
