Only play part of a movie file

Hi

I am using PowerPoint XP.

I have inserted an MPG movie file into my presentation, but when clicked, I
only want to play the first five seconds instead of the whole movie. Can I
do this? I know I can do it for an audio file, but the same options don't
seem to be available for movie files.

I guess I could splice the section of the movie file that I need, but I have
no experience of doing that.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you want to play only the first 5 seconds, run the
video then click on the screen over the video at the
point you want to stop. The video will stop here. To
proceed to the next slide, click anywhere else on the
screen (NOT over the video image) and you will advance.

This will work if you're not concerned that the audience
will think they're missing out on something if you
stop "mid-video." If that is a concern, I'd use a simple
video editing software to edit out the back end of the
video..
