open and 'save as' prob to network drive

One of my users has a peculiar problem, in that opening a file, or doing a
'save as' from one of his network drives available to him, hangs the program
(Excel or Word). Other network drives are fine (if a bit slow), as is the
local drive. Also, accessing the drive from windows Explorer is no problem
I have tried disconnecting this drive, and reconnecting using the same, of a
different drive letter, to no avail
I have checked permissions on the share that the drive connects to, and all
is well (I as expected it would be as this problem recently arisen).

Any ideas of where I can start to look to resolve this?

I have the same problem on a network of about 400 people. We are running
Office 2000 Premium and Outlook 2003, which both are updated, it has recently
come to my attention that throughout our Division everyone is slowly being
effected the same way. As soon as they choose the network share it starts to
list the folders and then only lists a few and glitches, it will not do
anything until you end task Office. I have tried reinstalling Office 2000,
with no avail.

I installed Office 2000 Service Pack 3 and it appeared to solve the problem
for me.

I have service packed (SP3) the application, and tried installing, and
reapplying the SP - all to no avail. As you can imagine, what's left of my
hair is being torn out now!
