Opening Emails Manually

Jeremy

I would like to be able to only open mail manually, rather than have it
open upon deleting a previous email. This seems to be the only way I can
have control over worms or viruses that infect opened mail. Is there a way
to do this? Thanks-JBB

Turn off the preview pane and make sure the pref for what to do after moving
or deleting a mail is set to simply close the window.

I should add that I use OS 10.2.8. Service Release 1

Thanks Dave- it would have been nice to be able to keep preview pane open,
but I guess security is more important. Perhaps there will bed that
possibility in the future. Not sure why one could not be able to have that
option with panes on, but ...thanks anyway-JBB

What kind of worms or viruses do you suspect your mail to be infected with?
As far as I've heard there is no virus around that could do that on a Mac.
You may receive mails with viruses attached, but they can only be active on
a Wintel PC. Until now, you're pretty safe on a Mac :)

No viruses or worms. If you have "Complex HTML" and "Allow network
interaction" turned on in Preferences, then messages with links to websites
(many messages with animated pictures) can confirm your email address and
send you more spam as a result. So instead of turning off Preview Pane, you
might prefer to turn off those preferences.

Otherwise, there are no self-executing attachments either. You would have to
double-click an attachment to have it do anything at all other than sit
there. So don't double-click attachments you don't know, and you'll be OK.
