Is there any way to configure a view in Entourage to be like the threading
in Outlook Express. Such as conversations ordered by the posting date of the
first message in the conversation.

Thanks,

James

James -

Try this. I think it comes close,

Go to View/Arrange By

Select Edit Custom Arrangements

In the window that pops up, click New and make the following choices:

Group by Subject
Sort groups by Sent (new on top)
Sort items by Sent (old on top)
Default display Expanded

Name the Arrangement and save it.

It will now appear in your Arrange By menu (which can also be accessed from
the top of the message list).

Hope this helps.

Best,

- Bill

Unfortunately threading by reference and threading by conversation is not
available in Entourage. That is what allows you to have threads with
multiple levels, so that you can see which message in a thread is in reply
to which. It's an often requested feature. Your request here should be
recorded. Alternatively, you can send feedback using the web form. In
Entourage X or 2004, go to Help > Send Feedback on Entourage. Otherwise,
click on this direct link to enter Mac Product Feedback:

In the meantime, I use a custom arrangement to group threads for mailing
lists and newsgroups. It's not ideal because messages with subject changes
aren't grouped and threading does not indent to show which messages are
replies to which. Here's the custom arrangement I use:

I've set up a custom arrangement (View > Arrange By > Edit Custom
Arrangements). It looks like this:

Group items by: Subject
Sort groups by: Sent Oldest on Top
Sort items within groups by: Sent Oldest on Top
Default display for groups: Expanded

I can then order any folder or newsgroup that way by opening it and then
going to View > Arrange By > My Custom Arrangement (right below the Edit
Custom Arrangements item). It sounds like you definitely want items grouped
by subject. Explore the options to see what works best for you, save it,
and then apply it to a folder.

If you sort groups by Sent (Newest on Top), then the threads will be ordered
by the sent date of the newest message in the thread. It needs to be set to
Sent (Oldest on Top) to be ordered by the sent date of the first message in
the thread.

Thanks, Mickey. Right you are, of course, as always.

I do that on purpose, though. It means I don¹t have to scroll through 10
pages of messages looking for a thread to which someone has replied after 2
months.

The effect is to put active threads first.

Hope they will implement reference threading soon.

Best,

- Bill
