original office CD-Rom is lost

Hi,
I want to install more up to date office suite on a friend's PC. All I
can see already installed on her system is Microsoft Word 97 only and
she has lost her original CD for this so I cannot uninstall it. Now I
understand that if I try to install say Office 2000 without
uninstalling previous Office program there may be a conflict - is this
right? Would I be able to install Office XP without problems? (She has
Windows 98 and lots of spare hard drive space available). What can I
do when old CD lost? many thanks.

This is her Office CD, not yours, correct? Legally, irrespective of any
conflicts in software, you cannot install your copy of Office on her
machine.
