OS 10.5.1 and Entourage 2004 v. 11.3.6: unexpected crashes on addingattachment

I'm experiencing unexpected Entourage crashes whenever I try to attach
a file, either through the icon or the pull down menu. Dragging and
dropping the attachment, however, works.

I've tried restarting, fixing disk permissions, and deleting the
entourage temp folder in the microsoft user data folder.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Create a new User in System Preferences and test there. This will eliminate
anything in your User's folder.

*If it doesn't work then it's system wide problems. This would require
running the combo or doing an "Archive & Install".

*If it works there, then create a new Identity in Entourage in your regular
User's folder and test.

**If it works there then it's your database.
**If it doesn't work then there is a problem with something in your User's
folder. These are usually difficult to find. Follow the directions here:

I created a new user and started entourage from scratch and
encountered the same problem. Forgive what might be a newbie question
but do you mean archive and install Leopard or Entourage. If the
latter, how do i do that? If Leopard, that seems like a big deal.
What might have led to this problem and how do I not step into it
again?

Thanks for the help.

When the problem occurs in a new User with a new Entourage Identity it's the
base OS files that are the problem. Since we are in new uncharted territory
with Leopard fixes. I would first use "Remove Office" then install from the
CD and update. Test in a new User. If it still fails then we know it's your
system files.

To do an "Archive & Install" use your Leopard DVD.

Archive and Install

Make sure to choose the options to maintain your user settings. Once the
install has finished, your system will be at whatever level the disk you
have is. So if your Install DVD/CD disk is 10.5, that's what version of OS
will be on your Mac. You will need to download the appropriate updaters from
Apple's site to restore the system to a higher version.I unserstand that the
10.5.1 updater from Software Restore is not as large as the 10.5.1 updater
you download directly from Apple. Some users have reported using the larger
updater fixed the Repair Permissions errors they were getting.

Now test in a new User. Does it work. Hopefully, the answer is yes. If it
does work, now test to see if it's working in your regular User's folder
with your Entourage data.

FYI....doing an "Archive & Install" isn't difficult. It won't take much more
time than using "Remove Office". If the system files are corrupted, it's not
something you can just ignore. The problem will only get worse over time to
where your system will crash.

You need to get these updaters:

11.3.5 combo
11.3.6 requires 11.3.5 to be installed
11.3.7 requires 11.3.6 to be installed
11.3.8 requires 11.3.7 to be installed
11.3.9 requires 11.3.8 to be installeds
