Install the latest Office 2001 update:

However, if the problem only occurs when you try to receive mail, that might
not be the cause. Install the update first to see if that cures the
problem. If not, it could be due to a corrupt message on the server. Work
through the steps on the "Crashes" page on The Entourage Help Page.

Please let us know if the tips to disable the Junk Mail Filter (Tools ->
Junk Mail Filter) and disable rules (Tools -> Rules) worked, as that's a
possible workaround to this problem, and knowing whether it works could help
to eliminate the problem in future releases. If that doesn't solve the
problem, try the steps to Allow Online Access and delete the message.
