out line fonts (and text) isn't there a way to outline fonts?

Isn't there a way to put a another color outline around fonts?
I've made the fonts red and I'd like to have a thin line of black around
them....

Yes, use WordArt. The first style will allow you to do what you want.

Word art is too limited.

A draw program? can you explain more? How would it be done?

www.OpenOffice.org has a draw program, it is free. Serif also has a free draw
program.

You can change the WordArt using any font. If you give the outline a small
weight you can get close to the look of regular text.

Workaround:
Create your text box with red text. Then create an exact copy of the
text box (Ctrl+Drag or Copy+Paste) in exactly the same position (use
Snap To Objects). Set the font colour to black, and adjust it to
directly above the first box in the z-order (i.e. use Send to Back, and
then Bring Forward until the red text turns black, but no further). Then
select all of the black text, go to Format > Font, check Outline, hit OK.
