out of office assistant

I bought the 2008 edition of office for mac, home & student (I've used the 2004 student edition since it was new). I was under the impression that the new version would have the nice little, and seemingly simple, feature called "out of office assistant". It does not. Seems I had to buy the next version up to get this.

Not sure why this feature is linked to exchange server features. Does anyone know of any simple add-on that can allow me to automatically reply with an out of office notification?

Because there is no Internet standard for server-side Out Of Office
notifications. Each provider does it a little bit differently - if at all.
(Most home users don't even need such a feature.) As you obliquely point
out, Entourage 2008 *does* allow you to configure an Exchange Out Of Office
notification (if you're using a relatively recent version of Exchange), a
much sought-after feature.

If your provider offers Out Of Office, it can probably be enabled via their
webmail interface. Otherwise, you are welcome to leave your computer on and
connected to the Internet and running a rule that reads and replies to your
email. See <http://www.entourage.mvps.org/faq_topic/reply.html#reply1>.

Thanks. I tried the rule option in the past. Seems like it didn't work for some reason, but I'll give 'er a run again.

Otherwise I'll just have to go to each of my providers and set up a reply for each one. Yuck.
