"Out of Office"

M

Marc Monaro

Hello!

Can someone tell me how to get the "Out of Office" rule to work.
I know that in Entourage, we now need to create a "rule" unlike Outlook
where the function was built in.

One question about this... does Entourage need to be open for this rule to
work?

Thanks!

Tools/Rules/Mail (POP) or (IMAP)/New

Change "All messages" popup to "Is not from a mailing list" so you don't
torture everyone.

Action:
Reply Š click "Reply Text" and write your auto-reply

Naturally. How could it work otherwise?

You're much better off going to your ISP's website (whether that's a
commercial ISP or an organization). I can pretty well guarantee that they'll
have a "Vacation Reply" feature which will operate from the server that will
operate at all times and Entourage (and thus your computer too) need not be
running. Whatever you do, don't use both methods, just one.

With Exchange 2003 and OWA you can set your status to "Out of Office". You
do not need Entourage to be open for this to work.

Right. Well, Exchange is a server, isn't it? Server-based solutions are
best, precisely so you don't need to leave Entourage open. If you're on
Exchange, then your Exchange Admin is your "ISP".

You don;t even need Excahnge 2003. It also works on 2000. Simply go to
the Webmail page and set-up the auto-reply from there.

Unless you have an Exchange account and you set this up directly from
the Exchange server webmail page since then the rules are executed on
the server side.
