Outline numbered +2003

I am trying to create an numbered outline using the Bullets and Numbering
feature in Word 2003. I have done this same exercise a hundred times in
class with my students from Office 95-Office 2003 without a hitch, however
the other day I tried it and instead of a new number appearing when I
depressed enter the feature was turned off. This was the case in the entire
classroom and because it was a classroom of networked PCs I reported the
problem to IT and they are working on it. Two days later I went to do the
exercise with a group of students equipped with their own laptops and the
same thing happened. Is there a way to enable/disable this feature?

I am a Tech Aps teacher and go through the same thing with my class.

If, during numbering, you have a blank line and hit enter, Word assumes you
are finished with numbering and turns off. Is that what is happening to you
or is it something else?

nope... it is a blank new document, we turn on the Outline Numbered feature
and choose the third style on the bottom row. We key in the first item and
then hit enter and when it drops to the next line it should display a roman
numeral II but it doesn't. It is back at the left-hand margin and the
feature is off. Oddly enought I just tried it on my home PC and the same
thing happened--however, I selected the second option on teh first row and it
worked fine. Here at home it seems to just be the option that is most like a
traditional outline (roman numerals, followed by upper case alpha, then
regular numbers followed by lowercase alpha)

You know, there is something wrong with mine as well. I can select the type
of numbering in any of the other lists, but when I go to the third on the
bottom row, it will not allow me to choose the leveling at all on the 2nd,
3rd, 4th, etc. Hmmmm that is very odd.

Might be a bug you get to report. Could be the Lori bug! or Buglori, or
Lorbugi, hmmmmmm.

Where are you a teacher and what do you teach?

I am glad I am not the only one...and how exciting to think I could have a
bug named after me--first fame, then fortune... and who says there is no
money in academia?

I teach at a local community college in Massachusetts (Middlesex) how about
you?

I think I figured out what the problem is... Try this ... go to the B&N
feature and select the buggy style then click on 'Customize' there is a
'More' button. Click on the 'More' button and change the 'Link Level to
Style' to '(no style)' (this is what the others were set to. Try it and let
me know.

PS I teach Core IT skills at in the Comptuer & Engineering Dept. How about
you?
