Outlook 2000 and the Envelope icon inside the inbox

I am having a couple of users with a strange problem. When they open Outlook
in the morning and it goes to the Inbox, all of the messages show up with the
"unread", closed envelope icon even though none of them show up bold and all
have been "read" before. If the user clicks to a different folder and back
or minimizes Outlook and comes back the problem is resolved. It will
randomly show up again and can be resolved in the same way described above.
I know that Outlook 2000 is old but upgrading for this issue is not an option.

Any help would be appreciated.

BTW, it is Outlook 2000, SP3 with Windows 2000, SP4
