Outlook 2000 Attachment Icons Within a Message?

?

-

If anyone could please offer advice on the following situation, I would
appreciate it. I have just upgraded from Windows 98 to XP Pro (clean
install) and reinstalled Office 2000. All updates for XP and Office 2k have
been downloaded and applied. One problem/annoyance I am encountering has to
do with "icon generation" (for lack of a better term). If I receive a email
message in Outlook 2000 that has an attached jpeg image file, instead of
just showing a generic attachment icon, it tries to generate an icon which
is a mini thumbnail of the actual picture file. Unfortunately, I am using
an older and slower PC and this procedure can cause a serious waiting time
problem. If there is just one small file attachment, the PC can generate
the icon quickly enough to not bother me that much. If I receive a file
with 6 large jpeg files (like someone sent today), it can take my computer
10 seconds or more to generate all of the thumbnail icons. Any time you
click on the email in question, it will once again regenerate the icon.
While this is occurring, I am unable to do anything else within Outlook.

Is there a setting I can change to where Outlook doesn't try to generate
thumbnail icons and just shows the generic jpeg icon which I seem to
remember was how the icons were displayed in my previous installation?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Doug
