Outlook 2000 does not close on exit

Colin Campbell

Hi,

Has anyone else had this problem. A client used a trial version of Outlook
2003 and later uninstalled it from the Add/Remove programs. Then reinstalled
Outlook 2000. Now when they close outlook, the window saying Outlook is now
closing remains running on the screen indefinitely. You have to shutdown the
application through the taskmanager (and it is very reluctant to close
then).

Any help would be appreciated.

Have they tried Detect and Repair?

Hi,

I am getting this for exactly the same reason and it is
driving me mad - managed to get this link though for info
on it;

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=834005

but is looks like you have to pay to get the hotfix - I am
on here as I want to find out if I can sort out the
problem with a free MS hotfix !!

Hope this helps a little bit.

You never have to pay for a Hotfix if the fix is for the problem you are
reporting. The call fees are waived.

Thanks for your help. This is exactly the same problem we
are having. I've proven this by logging on to a computer
running OL2000, exiting, immediately logging on to a
computer with OL2003 (making no changes to the OL2000
computer), close out of OL2003. Now OL2000 won't close.
MS this is your bug, let get the SP4 out ASAP.

Microsoft Hotfixes are NEVER paid calls. Just ensure that you only request
the hotfix.

I have the same problem on two systems. I have
reinstalled Office completely, but still have the problem
on one of them. The other system is a home PC off-site.
Strangely enough, on the same remote machine, when picking
up a local and different mail system with the SAME version
of Outlook 2000, it doesn't have any problems at all, but
when accessing the office mail (exchange 5.5) through the
VPN it won't close! So it must be something involving
both the ".pst" and the version of Outlook!
I'll keep watching to see if you get any responses!
