Hi all,

All machine have outlook2000 installed. We have a few WindowsXP
machines, all of the others are W2K.
People are asking when we are getting outlook2003.
We are using Exchange5.5(latest servicepack) and not planning an
upgrade.

Are there any known problems between outlook2000 & 2003 and outlook2003
& exchange5.5

kind regards

Michiel

It works fine. You don’t get drizzle-mode synchronization, but you shouldn't
have any major problems.

Actually there are some things that need to be taken into consideration...

1) If a mailbox is accessed with Outlook 2003 and then later accessed with
Outlook 2000, Outlook 2000 will stay resident in memory. Need to start
Outlook 2000 with the /cleanreminders and /cleanfreebusy command line
switches if user is bouncing between versions and accessing the same
mailbox.

2) There is at least one patch that needs to be applied to Exchange 5.5 SP4
because Outlook 2003 writes an additional value to calendar entries that
Exchange 5.5 doesn't expect. This extra value can cause the information
store to crash.

3) There is a patch for Exchange 5.5's OWA when Outlook 2003 is introduced
into the mix. This patch updates CDO on the Exchange server. CDO doesn't
handle the extra property written by Outlook 2003 and causes OWA to crash
when user accesses the calendar. Server must be restarted to get OWA back.
