Outlook 2002 Lockups

Outlook 2002 locks up consistently. After double-clicking on icon, the
splash screen dsiplays with license information. The outer frames load,
displaying the control and menu bars, the Outlook Shortcuts vertical window
and the Folder List window, then freezes. Have tried creating a second set
of personal folders with password to see if I can pinpoint where it's locking
up. Gets far enough to ask me for the password, then locks up. Screen sits
until I click anywhere on screen, at which point Windows reports that the
application has stopped responding. HELP! Can't really afford to stop using
Outlook and start over...

Close Outlook. Find and rename outcmd.dat to .old. (If using Windows 2000
or XP, you will need to enable searching hidden and system folders.)

Once you have done so, reopen Outlook and it should open fine. You will
need to rebuild any custom toolbars or customizations as the file outcmd.dat
controls how the toolbars display. When it becomes corrupted, it will cause
Outlook to hang because it cannot create the toolbars that you expect.

OK, I'm one step closer.
Now tht eystem loads the upper frame on the right side of the screen; the
one that displays the inbox list of messages. Now it freezes after that
display pops up and before it loads the last portion of the frameset, the
message detail window on the lower right. It hangs, and when I click
anywhere on screen it says that Outlook is not responding and I have to
restart it. Any other thoughts?

Millie,

I'm having the same issue. One added piece of info: the status bar says:
"(3items remaining) loading dataset...". It never loads, and Outlook hangs.
A new outcmd.dat file is not created in the documents and
settings/application data/microsoft/outlook folder.
