Outlook 2002 question: better way to stop spammers

W

who be dat?

I hope someone can help me out here. I've been getting swamped by spam
lately. I've enabled the filters and rules so I can add the from field to
the junk list, ban by domain name, etc. but I'm still getting them. The
emails all seem to be about the same, the from field has a one word in it,
usually someone's name but their first one. The text is filled with random
words but they offer a place or two to click The from name is alway
different though and so is the domain name.

What is the best way to block spam? Seems to me the best thing to do would
be to block the sending IP address of the message. You can look in
properties to find the original IP address it was sent from. Not sure how
effective that would be but it sounds good. Is it possible to block emails
from an IP address? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

The general rules are:
- Use an ISP who uses a SPAM filter.
- Install some anti-SPAM filter software.

Even with both in use some will still get through, so:

- Never open or preview email from anyone you don't know.
- If you need to view an email to check if it is SPAM, never do it while
your PC is on-line; just opening or previewing email can signal to the
sender that your email address is genuine.

Email headers are all too often faked to hide the real origin, blocking by
sender, domain or IP address is proving less effective as Spammers learn new
tricks
