Outlook 2002 SP-2 Runaway Writes to McV4A.tmp, etc.

After installing latest Windows XP Pro and IE6 security
patches and a McAfee antivirus update on 8/21/2003,
noticed sluggishness in Outlook. Got low on disk space
warning. Found McV4A.tmp in system folder C:\Documents and
Settings\Russell Wade.RUSSLAPT\Local Settings\Temp that
was over 7GB. Also creates McV5C.tmp, etc. Could not
delete until rebooted even though I closed out of Outlook
and McAfee Security Center. Problem does not occur,
however, unless I load Outlook. Occurs when Outlook is
loaded and McAfee is not. Performed complete virus scan
with latest definitions, but no viruses were found.
Repaired Office, but same result. Outlook is basically
unusable at this point.

I would have thought the answer is obvious. Remove McAfee and Outlook should
return to normal. If not do another detect and repair after removal.

Update...I found that the very same problem occurs using
Eudora so I was even more suspicious of McAfee.

Sent detailed problem description to McAfee Technician.

Turned off McAfee Virus Scan option to scan e-mail and
attachments, and the problem completely disappeared.

I do believe this issue started with the McAfee update on
8/21/03.

I hope McAfee fixes this so I can turn that feature back
on.

Thanks for the reply Mercury.
