Outlook 2002

My newly installed copy of Outlook 2002 is running slower and slower by the
minute. I deleted one plain text message and it took over two minutes
before I could view the next message. Outlook is also exhibiting the same
behavior when selecting "the next" email message. It take a few minutes for
the preview to actually change to the selected message. I have turned off
the Instant Messaging option in outlook but this did not give any noticeable
help.

Thanks for any thoughts.

The computer is a 2.5 gig cpu 1 gig mem laptop with plenty of drive space.
