Outlook 2003 - Add-In error message

E

Elise T

One of our staff has recently installed Office 2003 (he
first un-installed the previous version). All works well
except that when he opens Outlook he gets an error
message:
C:\Documents and Settings\'username'\Application
Data\Microsoft\AddIns\'string of japanese-like sysmbols'
is not a valid Office Add-in.

a re-install has not fixed the problem.
there are no files in the folder refered to. It appears
to be a COM add-in because if I go "Tools, Options,Other
tab, Advanced Options and COM Add-Ins", I get the error
message above.

Outlook works but we would like to get rid of the error
message.

thanks

If you do not see any COM add-ins or anything under Add-in Manager, then
close Outlook, find and rename extend.dat to .old and try it again.
