outlook 2003 random messages disappearing

Hi

Outlook 2003 with Exchange 2003 SP2 on back end.

Messages are disappearing at random, no pattern, nothing in common
between these and no rules or archiving involved...

I am starting to pull my hair out...

Any tips would be great.
