Outlook 2003 Rule Seems to Change on Its Own

O

Owen Williams

I am having an intermittent problem with Outlook 2003 rules at a client
site.

Environment: Windows XP Pro SP2 (fully patched) in a 2-PC workgroup (not
a domain). Outlook 2003 (fully patched).

Outlook is configured to retrieve Internet POP3 mail using two separate
accounts: AccountX and AccountY. AccountX is the default account.
Tools | Options | Mail Setup has Send immediately when connected
UNchecked and Send/Receive has only the All Accounts group, Online and
Offline.

The following rule is defined:

Apply this rule after the message arrives
through the AccountX account
and on this machine only
move it to the SalesMail folder
and stop processing more rules

This has been working fine for a couple of weeks. Over this past
weekend, the rule was somehow changed to:

Apply this rule after the message arrives
through the AccountY account
and on this machine only
move it to the SalesMail folder
and stop processing more rules

The client swears he did not change the rule, and I believe him. He is
not a computer expert and has been very good about NOT modifying the
configurations I have set for him.

It was easy enough to correct the rule, but I am trying to figure out
how it got changed in the first place. Are there any known Outlook 2003
bugs or quirks which might have caused this? Is there a way to prevent
this in the future?

Thanks,
