Outlook 2003 Rules Break Notification

L

Lawson

I am currently using Outlook 2003 to check my mail on an
IMAP server. I have a rule set to delete messages that
come in with a certain subject line. When those messages
come in, I get the envelope in the system tray telling me
that I have a new message. When I maximize Outlook, I
see that the file has been marked as read and deleted (as
it has a line through it.) I purge the Inbox folder, and
the file is removed. The envelope stays where it is,
however.

If I get a new message or if I mark an old message as
read, the envelope will go away. Here is the really
messed up part: if I try to close Outlook while the
envelope is falsely showing, it closes but the process
keeps running (and both tray icons remain.) If I try to
double-click on the Outlook tray icon, it tells me that
Outlook isn't responding. The only way to get rid of
them after this is to use task manager to kill the
process.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a workaround
I'm just not aware of? I have all of the updates
installed as of today.
